Bio

I am currently a stay-at-home-mom of two small baby girls, recently retired from my full time job as a civil engineer. I have been creating things my entire life and whenever possible, I choose to make my own instead of buying something. The name of my store comes from the fact that I am part of a family-owned and operated apple orchard. When I first started dating my now-husband, his family let me display my jewelry in the apple store. It went over better than I ever expected and I have continued to create things to sell during the apple season.

I am also proud to sell a few items made by mother-in-law, Diane, and my sister-in-law, Karma. I lucked out when I married into an extremely talented family! The long-arm quilting on many of the quilts you see here was done by my aunt-in-law, Barb, from www.QuiltsbyBarb.etsy.com . Make sure you check out her shop for more amazing quilts!

1.Where do you sew?

I sew in my basement. I have a quarter of it allotted for my ‘creative space’ although I’ve moved into about another 1/8th of it ‘unintentionally’.

2.How do you organize your materials? Is there any tip that you would like to share with us?

I used to organize my fabric in stacked apple crates (we own and apple orchard) but my husband told me last fall that they were going to need them so he installed floor to ceiling shelves for me. I love that I can look over and see ALL of my fabric – it makes me smile.

3.How do you prepare to sewing/quilting?

I don’t really prepare – I just do it. I always have tons of ideas in my mind and I just go down and sew on what I feel like sewing first.

4.Do you sew after getting the order or forehead?

Pretty much before. I do custom orders but find that I enjoy creating things that come to me the best. I have recently started something called Project QUILTING on my blog, www.kimscraftyapple.blogspot.com, that has inspired me to create things I have never imagined!

5.Where/How do you keep your items after you finish them?

During non-apple season I hang my bigger quilts over my upstairs railing. We have a ‘cottage’ style house with a big ceiling and the people that visit are always in awe of the quilts. I have them on display and for sale in my apple orchard store during the fall.

6.How do you pack your items and how do you send them?

I wrap them up in plastic and then ship them in whatever box seems to work best for them.

7.Your favorite 5 supply stores.

I like my local quilt shop – Mill House Quilts in Wuanakee, WI.
I also do a lot of impulse online buying from www.fabric.com , www.fabricalacarte.etsy.com , www.fabricfascination.etsy.com and www.spiceberrycottage.etsy.com
