My passion is helping people which is why I love my current part time job as a tutor in reading for 8th graders.
How did you find out about Etsy?
Through a wedding website while I was looking for things for my own wedding. I bought my save the dates on etsy and my wedding programs....bridesmaids gift, wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses all on ETSY!!
Please describe your creative process
For me it starts with materials...the materials I work with inspire me to arrange them in such a way that may be a little outside the box...especially for the wedding world haha....My own wedding was vintage inspired so that is where I start...I try to buy things that remind me of the past or are actually vintage pieces and incorporate them into modern style wedding designs. I also get a lot of inspiration from the brides I work with from their style and wedding colors and that is usually where I get the bulk of my creativity.
How do you promote your work?
Through showcases on etsy and constantly renewing my items so they stay in the mix. I have tried myspace and craigslist to no success though:(

Could you please tell us about 5 etsy stores that you most like?
Of course ILoveYoYo, because of the affordable and beautiful creations that are made there that fit perfectly in my vintage style wedding bouquets and boutonnieres.
I love the etsy shop Damosel because the beautiful vintage millinery feathers that I have used for almost every bride one way or another. I can't find anything like them anywhere else!
Another favorite would have to be the etsy shop Silkfabric. The owner is so gracious with working with me and my bride's budgets and has absolutely beautiful fabrics and lots of options for colors.
A place that I absolutely find a necessity is the shop Plethora, where I purchase gift boxes from which are are pretty, affordable and perfect size to send my boutonnieres and brooches to customers in.
When I need to get beautiful pieces for a bride on a budget the etsy shop, Beadsupplies, is perfect!

What are your interests?
My interests are, obviously art ^_^ gemstones, astronomy, history, mythology, nature, geology, and my pet fish

How did you find out about Etsy?
I was told about etsy from a friend. I first started selling my jewelry on ebay and had no luck, so he told me about etsy and it was love at first click!

Please describe your creative process.
My Creative process is hard to put into words..I stop seeing through my conscious mind and see things with my soul. That way I can capture emotions and ideas and form them into a swirl of color. Now past the deep philosophical process I mainly start with a thing that gives me inspiration, like mythology or nature and work from there.
How do you promote your work?
On the internet I promote by using my blog, loitering in the forums on etsy and other various sites, and I also use facebook. In the 'real' world I leave my business cards in various shops, on billboards, and i am walking advertisement. I don't go anywhere without my jewelry on!

Etsy Seller : Wear My Colors

Tell us a bit about yourself.
We don't usually like to talk about us, we just think that others should have their own opinion about it. For a basic aproached, we're a portuguese couple. We've been friends for almost half of our lives and now we're in love ^^ Please don't laught.. We are just some pre-adult students. I, Jo, I'm almost 22 and I'm doing Psychology (starting a master on September) and Fábio is 23 and he's doing Occupational Therapy so.. nothing to do with arts.. I, Jo again (hello ^^), started with wearmycolors on 13rd February, last year and Fábio join me some months ago.. we're still adjusting the shop (that's why our shop on livejournal.com is still under construction) but.. we're happy with it. We do what we do because we like it, because we believe in diference and somehow, one day, we found perfection. Now we can do whatever we like with that.. We try to push ourselves into our criativity limits and making or having unique things is our goal. It's our mind free time. We just love to play around, laugh and have a good time enjoying life. What are your interests? That´s a hard question .. We can´t realy resume it on one or two things.. there's a whole world to explore and plenty of things to do and to love.

How did you find out about Etsy?
We were looking for places that could sell and expose our things worldwild..The shop on livejournal.com and the pub we were doing was not enought as a lot of people don't trust in a first look so.. we browse and found etsy ^^ Now the goal is having money to spend on a lot of things we've been flirting.. LOL

Please describe your creative process.

We really don't have a specific process.. How can we explain?!.. Somehow, somewhere in a particular time and local we have a mental picture of what we could do and.. we do it .. as iqual as we can to the thing we've imagined.. Most of the times we talk to each other about the new ideas and we do ask friends and family if they would were, buy as a gift or have in their houses.. It's all handmade, with a big amount of care and love. It's maybe strange but we don't have a specif place to do it.. we just need the material and our ideas..There are times where we make exactly what we had in mind and planned and other instances where the design morphs during assembly, for variable reasons. We make some unique items (that means that even if we wanted to, we can replicate them) and customized orders too. We´re opened to try on new ideas and, we totaly know that if we just change the color of the item, it seems totaly diferent and new. We take some pictures, listed on the sites, try to promote as much as we can and, when an item is purchased we mail it out, carefully, in a padded mailer with a thank you note. Oh.. another thing, if someone asks us, we do wrap it as a gift.

How do you promote your work?
We've been listing some items on etsy and we're putting up our livejournal.com page. We try to actively participate on forums, we browse some blogs, go around flickr.com, have a page on myspace.com, do some comments and ask aroud if we can be featured. We're opening a blog too, on September but.. that's still a surprise ^^ This month we've be featured on

Did you heard Emery Mineral before ? Or do you have tomato pincushion come with cute little strawberry? This strawberry is not part of the decoration. It has Emery Mineral inside for keep your pins and needles clean and sharp. Emery Mineral is a very hard crushed rock, used to make abrasive powders and mixed with other species. It's very heavy. There are two kinds of Emery Grain at the market:Natural and synthetic . Natural Emery Minerals had been made from natural rocks and Synthetic emery grains produced in factory, not mined. Synthetic Emery Mineral's life much more short from natural one. Natural Emery Grain has sharp sides that help needles stay sharp.

I really enjoy a lot of things. Mostly though I enjoy laughing, making jewelry, watching the Red Sox, playing with my new Wii, and laying at the beach. I also love history, especially ancient history.

How did you find out about Etsy?

One of my sorority sisters told me about it when I told her I was starting my own business after graduation in 2007. Her friend told her about it and she thought it would be a great place for me to show my work. She was right!

Please describe your creative process.
Well, I don't know if it's orthodox...but I take my macbook out to my workspace and pop in one of the arrested development, seinfeld, 30 rock, or favorite movie in and let the background keep me focused. I think I have learned or conditioned myself to really need background noise to block it out to focus. I love playing with the semi-precious stones I have and creating new combinations as well as appreciating where they came from (the archaeologist in me! put that degree to use..wink wink). I just really enjoy using my hands to get things accomplished.

How do you promote your work?
I use the internet mostly. I have pages on etsy, blogspot, facebook, myspace, bigcartel, dawanda, and more! I try to keep up with all them at least on a weekly basis - mostly on a daily basis. I also have local shows, travel shows, fairs, and have some pieces on consignment at a local gallery. I also have a large email list with family and friends that I keep in the loop. I have a TON of business cards as well as my artist information cards. My sorority, friends, and family have really done a lot to help people remember I am here :) I am very thankful for everyone's help.

DrikaB.etsy.com - she makes FABULOUS bags that are practical and attractive. She made a custom bag for me that fits my macbook perfectly as well as everything else I need.
minicoops.etsy.com - I found her shop the other week and fell in love with her little mini dresses... who could resist these!

How did you found out about Etsy?
Actually I found out about Etsy when I was trying to sell my blankets on another board. I was told that I couldn't sell my blankets because they were handmade and I couldn't sell anything there that was handmade. A very nice woman on that particular bulletin board told me about Etsy and the rest is history!

Please Describe Your Creative Process
Many times in the creative process there is not a specific pattern involved especially when I am trying to create something that us unusual. Even with a pattern, I find myself altering it or using color and texture combinations that you wouldn't ordinarily see. For me it usually is an empowering experience!
How do you promote your works?
Much of my work is promoted by word of mouth. I started making blankets and giving them away at large family gatherings/parties so that everyone could see my work. I still promote that way, but just recently obtained a flickr portfolio and started promoting within Etsy whenever I can. I also send links to my etsy store to people who I know have a lot of contacts, i.e. e-mail master lists. I simply ask them to send a message to their lists.

Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a 31 year old, married Florida native who has recently been transplanted to Boston. Before settling down as a Jewelry Designer slash Research Attorney (that's my day job), I attended college in Atlanta, lived on sailboat in Greece, and then wound up in law school. Also I finally learned how to ride a bicycle last year – it wasn't pretty, lots of flailing about and cursing – but I did it. Whoo-hoo!
What are your interests?
I adore spending time at the beach, any beach, but especially the Gulf of Mexico's laid back shore. Travel is very important to me and I am happy to say I have visited several countries, most recently Japan. I also enjoy reading, interior design and architecture. I am trying to talk myself into liking jogging, but it's not going so well.
How did you find out about Etsy?
I read about etsy on a blog titled http://www.dooce.com/ – from then on I was 100% hooked. Well, hooked as a voyeur. It took a few weeks before I had to time (and, okay, courage) to join up and start selling my wares.

Please describe your creative process
My inspiration always comes from nature and it only takes a little something, whether the shape of a shell, or the color of the water, to send me running to my sketch pad. Once I rough out a few ideas for new pieces I will list the components that I need, check my supplies, and place an order with my vendors. Sometimes I use repurposed or vintage materials – but 99% of the time my pieces are compromised of brand new supplies. I enjoy working with sterling silver, gemstones and shells. Each item is handmade in my smoke-free home studio/office. There are times where I will make exactly what I had planned and other instances where the design morphs during assembly – it is not unusual for me to rework a piece several times before I think it is "good enough" for sale. Most often I only create one or two of each piece, which helps my little brain stay fresh. However I have made custom orders wherein I'll produce several of one design for a particular client. Once an item has been purchased, I carefully gift wrap the jewelry and mail it out in a padded mailer with – of course – a handwritten thank you note.

How do you promote your work?
Within etsy I list new pieces frequently, relist older items at least once a week, and actively participate in the forums. Outside of etsy I sell my work to a (wonderful!) store in St. Petersburg Florida, Paper Presence, and plan on approaching more shops here in Boston. I have also posted my work on cs.artjewelrymag.com, and been featured on solsisters.blogspot.com at solsisters.blogspot.com/2008/07/monkey-love.html.

Do you know what is Emery Pincushion?

Emery Grain/Sand/Mineral/Powder for who like to Sew ! ! !

Did you heard Emery before ? Or do you have Tomato Pincushion come with cute little Strawberry?

Emery is a very hard rock type used to make abrasive powder. It largely consists of the mineral corundum (aluminum oxide), mixed with other species such as the iron-bearing spinels hercynite and magnetite, and also rutile (titania). Industrial emery may contain a variety of other minerals and synthetic compounds such as magnesia, mullite, and silica.

Crushed or naturally eroded emery (known as black sand) is used as an abrasive. If you use emery ina pincushion, it help to keep your needles, pins clean and sharp. It's very heavy so not move around when you sew. I'm sure you know strawberry pincushion. They have emery inside.
If you like to buy emery for make very own pincushion please check my store. There is big discount now. Also you can find finished pincushions too.

I like to go to the cinema, catch up with my friends and travelling. I love meeting new people, learning new skills and broadening my knowledge of the world. Anything creative is my escape from the mundane day to day job

How did you find out about Etsy?
I discovered Etsy through a friend who is also a member of Etsy. Sarah, (paperandstring.etsy.com) she encouraged me to join and I'm so pleased I did, just wish I had done it sooner

Please describe your creative process:
My creative process usually starts with inpspiration from things I have seen in magazines, the fabric I buy, time spent with friends or even just doodling on pieces of paper. I then start experimenting with technical patterns, making decisions such as handle composition & length, size of compartments and detailing. I then make a mock up (test piece) of the bag and check to see if the overall bag works as a design. Then the fun bit starts where I can choose fabrics, cut out pieces and start sewing to see my creation take shape. Once the main body of the bag is sewn together I can then get more creative and add detailing like diamantes and beads. The hard bit is letting my creations go to their new homes.....but that is soon forgotten once I'm busy making the next. I also do alot of commmission work which is really fun as I try to pick out peoples personalities in the bags I make for them. I like to know my customer, the things they like, what inspires them and most of all how much they love their bag as much as I did making it.

How do you promote your work?
Mainly I give out A LOT of business cards, join in the forum threads in promotions, keep friends and family updated with lots of emails. Make sure my blog is kept up to date and attend as many craft fairs that I can possibly fit in.

I like crosstitches, Yo-Yo’s, Quilting, home decoration and find new ideas for my friends! I was working like Consultant for re-organization the companies. Actually I have two stores, nakpunar and iloveyoyo. At Nakpunar I sell emery sand, emery pincushions and craft supplies. At I Love Yoyo I sell my handmade Yo-Yo’s. I have nice projects but need more time.

• Please describe your creative process

I like to use scraps! I hate to throw them to garbage. When I have scrap first I’m looking what is the fabric size and kind. I use satin and crepe fabrics for my Ponytail Holders and Table Runners. Cotton’s for Yoyo Quilts. Really small cotton pieces for my Collectible Miniature Yo-Yo Doll Quilts. After I seperate them I am starting to work.

For emery sand I like to wholesale instead of making pincushions! It’s give me much more time for my Yo-Yo’s

• Where do your ideas come from?

I like to talk with my friends about our items.Usually I found new ideas when I talk with them! Example my best friend making dolls. When I see her dolls I think hey she need a quilt for her bed! And start to stitches Yo-Yo Doll Quilt Series.

• How did you get into your craft?

All my life I like to do something nice even I was a small kid. Turkey is very old country. There are thousands crafts. Etsy Treasury

This is my first featuring in a Treasury! I'm so happy and excited! thank you, retrorugrats.etsy.com for featuring me in your wonderful treasury!

Original Cuff Hem Jeans Tutorial

All the my jeans need hems. It's really big cost for me and doesn't like plain stitch on them. Especially if cuff has some tecture. So I start to hem my jeans at hand. It's really easy to do. You need only strong thread, needle, measurement, iron and of course your jeans.

First you have to find how many inches your pants to cut off. And divide this lenght to half. Don't forget jeans going to be shorter after e while. Also your shoes height is important too.

Cuff your jeans. I need to take off 2 inches so I measure to 1". Important think is don't add original hem to calculation.

I handstitch all along the original hem. You can do this with sewing machine too. Please stitch the cuffs one at a time. So if you not happy with the lenght you can fix it easily.

It's time to try your jeans. Wear your shoes and check how is jeans look like. If you like to lenght now we can start second leg.

Turn the legs right side out and iron it.

I like to stitch sides to each other inside the jeans. So when you wear your jeans cuff's not turn out.
And that's all. I hope you'll enjoy it!!!
